Troy-Miami County Public Library and Troy Local History Library are excited to announce their relocation to the Hobart Government Center in the coming months.
The new Local History & Genealogy Center is a move toward fiscal responsibility and brings numerous benefits to our staff and the community. Money from the sale of the building at 100 W. Main St. will be used to help fund a new HVAC system at the Troy library. The current HVAC system is original to the 1976 building and has exceeded its expected service life. Money from a $500,000 grant from the One-Time Strategic Community Investment Fund will also be used for the HVAC replacement, which is expected to cost about $1.1 million.
“This move marks a significant step in consolidating library services and staff for Troy-Miami County Public Library,” said Rachelle Via, library director. “We hope researchers and genealogy enthusiasts will find it easier to access our extensive collection and the invaluable knowledge of our staff.”
The new location at the Hobart Government Center, along with our Maker Lab, offers a parking lot, ensuring a more convenient experience for our visitors as well as climate control for the storage of historic documents. These changes will not only preserve but also promote all of our resources more effectively.
Staff will be opening the Local History & Genealogy Center for limited hours beginning in November while they complete the packing of documents and materials at the building at 100 W. Main St. during the next few months. We expect the transition to be a process as the Local History Library has multiple collections to organize and prepare for the move.
